SYNOPSIS

In the final tournament of his life, Alessandro is not chasing glory, he’s facing the quiet collapse of the fighter’s myth. Through boxing, he reconnects with the same inner world that helped him survive the brutality of his past. But his true, fragile victory is something far less heroic: the chance at a normal life, a luxury not granted to all. As his children grow and their questions deepen, old wounds resurface and the past demands answers.

This self-produced documentary was made entirely without public funding or the involvement of any formal production company. Created on a micro-budget with the crucial contribution of underground musicians for the sound interventions and driven by the filmmakers’ own initiative, it ultimately inspired the founding of our collective — which was formed after the film was completed. We’re proud that this independent effort went on to win Best Feature Documentary at the West London Film Festival. Boxing is depicted in its less predictable aspects, rather than exploiting the heroic dynamism in the ring, the ecstatic dimension of sports performance opens the gateway to a series of deeper reflections and ghosts from the past, the most difficult challenge to share with growing children.

The narrative takes the form of an intimate confession to the eldest daughter, who, at a certain point, began asking questions about a past that Alessandro kept buried. It is a story that softens the most brutal moments, favoring almost fairy-tale-like episodes. Life forced him to struggle for much more ordinary things, a story distant from the limelight and the dreamy metaphors of sports glory.

The story unfolds in the world of boxing the most cinematic of sports a realm of redemption, possibilities, and heroic adventures. Yet the reality that emerges is far from the limousines of American champions; instead, it is made up of half-empty gymnasiums in small towns that embrace sporting events as if they were folk festivals.

For Alessandro, boxing is a form of nirvana, an escape from the complexities of life, a space where he can remove the mask he was forced to wear. The sport is depicted in its less predictable aspects not through the usual heroic dynamism of the ring, but as an ecstatic experience that opens the door to deeper reflections and reminiscences of the past.
